Rest and Dream: Manifestation and Meditation

We gathered with a group of strong, powerful women for a moment of healing, relaxation, community, and vision casting with liberation mentor and meditation practitioner, Brittany Pollard. Two attendees were gifted with one ticket to Brittany’s dynamic Dare to Dream event. And, of course, all participants left with positive intentions for creating visions for 2021 and beyond. Spotlight on a Sistah: Erica Bailey

Erica Bailey is a student of civil engineering at California State University, Northridge. She is fascinated with structure—that is, bridges and buildings. When she travels, which she loves to do, she is more likely to take pictures of the buildings than the people who work or live in them.

A question very often asked of Erica is, “Where is your accent from?” The listeners probably hear in her speech, English words drenched in a Spanish accent sprinkled with inflections from the islands. Erica is a Black Latina woman born in Venezuela. Her mother is from Trinidad and Tobago and her father is from Guyana. She currently has citizenship both in Venezuela and the United States.

Erica finds challenges in being a woman in a male-dominated profession and required to communicate in English while thinking in Spanish. She overcomes those challenges by feeling with her heart, believing in the possibilities, and taking breaks to enjoy the things she loves—cooking, architecture, and nature.

We had an intimate conversation with Erica as she courageously shared with us the challenges of being a woman of color as a civil engineering student in the U.S. Erica has already earned this degree while in Venezuela and is now managing to earn her degree for the second time in her second language! Attendees were left inspired and determined to never give up as well as intrigued by learning Venezuelan customs.

Girls Night In: Costume Party

The ladies got together again with drinks and snacks, but this time with a twist. We gathered in costume! And when I say there was a creative bunch of women, I mean it. We had the pleasure of being joined by Princess Mononoke, Waldo, a cowgirl, a milk tea with boba, witches, squid, grapes, Mardi Gras girl, and more! After a four-way tie, a woman dressed as a devil earned the title of Best Costume by busting a move. In addition, we played games and got into the Halloween spirit by sharing our best paranormal and ghost stories.

Happy Birthday Sistahs!!

Did you know all three of the sistahs have birthdays in September and October? We celebrated another year of life with the ladies in a combined birthday party. The sistahs answered questions submitted by you all, including our fist kisses and most cringe worthy dates. Plus, we played a game of jeopardy to see who knew the sistahs best.

Spotlight on a Brotha: James Brooks

Girls Night In Zoom Party

The ladies got together from the comfort of their homes to let loose and connect over drinks. Bresha demonstrated how to create two fun and quick drinks. She skillfully showed us how to concoct a refreshing strawberry daiquiri as well as a non-alcoholic rendition. We had girl chat, played games, and laughed plenty.
